WHAT IS PRIDE INSIDE?
With Pride events around the country cancelled because of the coronavirus pandemic, Pride Inside has been created to make sure LGBTQ+ people still have visibility on the streets of the UK this Pride month. The campaign will see 1,000 digital billboards across the UK taken over with images created by and featuring queer people celebrating Pride in their own individual way from their homes.
IS THIS THE CAMPAIGN BY AMNESTY, STONEWALL, UK BLACK PRIDE, AND PARAPRIDE?
No. These amazing charities are running both the Pride Challenge on social media, and two-week festival of live events from the 28th June under the banner Pride:Inside. WHAT DO WE HOPE THE CAMPAIGN WILL ACHIEVE?
Now more than ever it is crucial that LGBTQ+ people from all walks of life are visible and proud in our public spaces. LGBTQ+ people are disproportionately more likely to experience difficulty with their mental health, with isolation being a key factor in that. Pride Inside is an opportunity to remain as proud and visible as ever and send a message to LGBTQ+ people everywhere - you’re not alone.
WHAT ARE OUR AIMS?
Visibility of LGBTQ+ people in public spaces - we’re still here, even though we aren't on the streets!
A call to action to encourage LGBTQ+ people to celebrate Pride Inside.
Put LGBTQ+ people in control of the way they are represented in the media - we want to be a game changer for future Pride campaigns!
Raise money for the LGBT+ Consortium (to be distributed locally across the UK) and signpost LGBTQ+ people to local services and charities should they require support.
WHO IS BEHIND PRIDE INSIDE?
Pride Inside is a not-for-profit grassroots campaign, the brainchild of drag star, writer and performer Ginger Johnson and brought to life by a group of queer people from the worlds of photography, design, theatre and media. The organising team includes Dominic Falquero, Co-Founder and Campaign Director, with Photography Co-ordination by Corinne Cumming, Billboard Design by Adrian Everett, Press Representation led by Leigh Holmwood, Social Media Strategy by Christina McDermott, Filter and Social Media Design by Robin Priestley, and Producer Nic Connaughton. The campaign would also not be possible without the 17 amazing queer photographers, and more than 120 amazing models from England, NI, Scotland and Wales, as well as countless other organisations and individuals who have contributed,
DOES PRIDE INSIDE HAVE THE SUPPORT OF THE LGBTQ+ COMMUNITY?
Pride Inside has been wholly created and put together by a group of queer people while all of our photographers and contributors are also members of the LGBTQ+ community. We are also working with the LGBT+ Consortium to collect donations to be distributed to organisations across the UK who provide vital services for the queer community. In addition we are grateful to countless others, both individuals and organisations, who have made valuable contributions to the success of the campaign.
IS THERE A FUNDRAISING ELEMENT?
Pride Inside will use this unique opportunity to raise awareness of the work of local grassroots LGBTQ+ charities nationwide and has partnered with LGBT+ Consortium to collect donations to be distributed to organisations across the UK who provide vital services for the queer community. All donations made via www.prideinside.co.uk will be held in a designated fund by the LGBT+ consortium and distributed to local LGBTQ+ charities.
WHAT IS THE LGBT+ CONSORTIUM?
LGBT+ Consortium is the umbrella body for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Trans+ voluntary and community organisations across the UK. It has a membership of over 370 organisations ranging from the largest in the sector, with a core focus on grassroots, local LGBT+ initiatives. The Consortium works directly with organisations to support them to thrive and be successful, works with policy makers to keep LGBT+ issues high on the agenda, and actively identifies opportunities to bring new income sources into the LGBT+ sector and get funding to where it is needed the most and across the diversity of organisations working with LGBT+ people.
WHEN DOES THE CAMPAIGN LAUNCH?
Pride Inside will be officially announced on Wednesday June 10 with the campaign going live across the UK on Monday June 15 for two weeks.
DO YOU WANT OTHER QUEER PEOPLE TO JOIN IN?
Absolutely! Pride Inside hopes the campaign will inspire other queer people across the UK to carry on the Pride celebrations at home and create their own images, posting them online under the #PrideInsideUK hashtag.
HAS THE CAMPAIGN BEEN CREATED IN A SAFE WAY?
Pride Inside has adhered to all government safety guidelines during planning, photoshoots and implementation. The campaign has been conceived with safety and socially distancing at its essence, with all photography taking place at people’s homes or local public spaces.. Similarly we have sought advice to ensure the care and safeguarding of everyone who has contributed to the campaign.
WHAT IS CLEARCHANNEL'S ROLE?
Clear Channel have supported the campaign by donating 1,000 digital billboards in towns and cities across the UK, including several iconic sites in London.
WHO IS OVERSEEING THE CAMPAIGN?
Pride Inside is a grassroots community initiative comprising volunteers across the country. It is being managed by an organising team, and is being overseen by LGBTQ+ Arts Charity, Raze Collective (Charity Number 1167655) who are providing legal and financial oversight. We are also working with and partnered with the LGBT+ Consortium.
